I think its common with self taught drummers. They muight play a groove at one speed but when it comes to fills it might be too fast or too slow and it doesn't sound seemless. I was guilty of that myself until i listened back to what it sounded like and was surprised at how gast my fills were compared to my grooves.

He did. And Kirk got lessons from Satriani to up his game during RTL and MOP. And it was a great decision. You can always get better, no matter how good you think you are. When you think you have it all figured out, everything you do starts to sound the same and stale. You have to keep learning and growing and it will show through in what you create and how you approach life in general.

The drummer with Meshuggah does a version of this. He builds his parts in ProTools and THEN learns them. It's a perfectly legit way to work.

I really wish Phil would have went and got his needed surgery on his back and could have taken the time, a year to a year n a half, and then maybe thing's would have been different. I always just assumed that the reason for the name " Damageplan, was because after Pantera was done, they came up with the damage plan. The plan after Phil went sideways on Pantera.
